The Singapore AI Startup initiative builds on the success of NUS Enterprise’s BLOCK71 network and Microsoft’s AI Accelerate programme, which operates across 11 global cities. This 10-week incubator enables startups to develop on Microsoft Azure, refine AI products, and receive strategic mentoring, networking access, and investor connections that fuel growth and fundraising.
The expanded Singapore AI Startup collaboration introduces a new Go-To-Market (GTM) track led by Microsoft experts to help companies transition from validated technology to scalable business models. This move addresses a key barrier for AI ventures in Singapore’s limited market size by supporting their expansion into regional and global markets.
Startups in the Singapore AI Startup programme gain access to Microsoft Azure’s full AI ecosystem, including OpenAI’s GPT-4 and other generative models through Azure AI Foundry. They also benefit from one-on-one AI consulting, early access to cutting-edge models, and pre-trained solutions designed for enterprise deployment tools that typically remain out of reach for early-stage firms.
To qualify for the Singapore AI Startup programme beginning in 2026, companies must be Singapore-based and post-MVP stage, with applications open until November 14, 2025. The previous cohort included 26 startups from multiple sectors, validating the model before scaling to 150 participants over the next three years.
This enhanced Singapore AI Startup effort builds upon earlier Microsoft–NUS collaborations, including the February 2025 Generative AI Accelerate Programme for 20 pre-Series A companies in Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia. The addition of Enterprise Singapore now brings expanded funding opportunities through the Startup SG Tech grant, enabling a more robust growth pipeline.
Microsoft ASEAN President Mayank Wadhwa noted that the Singapore AI Startup programme goes beyond technology enablement to foster a full innovation ecosystem. “By uniting academia, entrepreneurs, and technology expertise, Singapore is positioned to lead Asia’s AI evolution,” he said during the SWITCH 2025 launch event.
NUS Vice President for Ecosystem Building Associate Professor Benjamin Tee emphasized that the Singapore AI Startup collaboration reflects a shared vision to drive AI-powered innovation across Asia. “This partnership will help translate AI research into real-world impact while deepening Singapore’s role as a regional innovation hub,” he stated.
Enterprise Singapore Managing Director Cindy Khoo added that the Singapore AI Startup initiative aligns with national efforts to turn local innovation into global opportunity. Streamlined access to Startup SG Tech grants simplifies funding for qualified AI firms while preserving high selection standards through mentorship and due diligence.
This Singapore AI Startup expansion coincides with Microsoft’s record $34.9 billion in Q3 2025 capital expenditures a 74% annual increase as it scales AI infrastructure worldwide. Singapore’s strong IP regime, pro-innovation policy, and ASEAN access make it a key node in Microsoft’s AI strategy.
Looking ahead, the Singapore AI Startup programme aims to position the nation as a regional AI powerhouse by giving local founders access to world-class resources, mentorship, and commercialization pathways. Beyond boosting startup formation, the programme seeks to generate high-value jobs, intellectual property, and global competitiveness for Singapore’s knowledge economy.
