Nissan Wayve Driver Assistance Fuels New ADAS Breakthrough

The collaboration between Nissan and Wayve marks a major leap forward in intelligent mobility, with the companies signing definitive agreements to integrate next-generation ProPILOT systems with Wayve’s embodied AI.

This partnership positions Nissan Wayve Driver Assistance at the center of a new era of autonomous and semi-autonomous driving technology, designed to bring safer, more intuitive mobility to millions of customers worldwide.

Nissan’s driver assistance journey began with the launch of ProPILOT in 2016, offering single-lane highway support. The company advanced this capability with ProPILOT 2.0 in 2019, which introduced multi-lane functionality and hands-off driving in specific conditions. These features are now deployed across various Nissan models and have become core components of the brand’s intelligent mobility roadmap.

Building on this foundation, Nissan is now moving to the next level by integrating Wayve’s embodied AI, referred to as the Wayve AI Driver into the upcoming generation of ProPILOT. Demonstrated in a prototype unveiled in September 2025, the system paired Wayve’s AI with Nissan’s Ground Truth Perception technology, powered by next-generation LiDAR. The result showcased smooth and safe assistance not only on highways but also through complex and unpredictable urban environments.

Under the newly announced agreement, Nissan and Wayve will embed Wayve AI Driver into mass-produced vehicles across global markets. This strategic move allows Nissan to deliver advanced driver support across multiple vehicle segments, ensuring that customers in Japan, North America, and beyond benefit from AI-driven convenience and safety enhancements. Nissan plans to launch the first vehicle equipped with this new ProPILOT generation in fiscal year 2027 in Japan.

This milestone also marks a pivotal moment for Wayve. Nissan is the first major automaker to commit to deploying its embodied AI at scale. Wayve’s end-to-end learning approach enables the system to adapt efficiently to new cities, traffic patterns, and vehicle platforms with minimal recalibration.

Because the technology works seamlessly with diverse sensor configurations, such as cameras, radar, and LiDAR it can support a wide range of vehicle types, from compact cars to SUVs.

Integrating Wayve’s software deeply into Nissan’s intelligent driving stack opens the door for continuous learning. By deploying the system across mass-market vehicles, both companies will collect invaluable real-world driving data.

This dataset will accelerate improvements, strengthen safety capabilities, and help Nissan maintain a competitive edge as mobility shifts toward autonomous and AI-assisted driving.

The collaboration aligns with Nissan’s broader vision for intelligent mobility: solutions that are cleaner, safer, and more inclusive. By embedding high-confidence, adaptable AI into ProPILOT, Nissan is setting new expectations for user-friendly driver assistance. Customers can expect smoother transitions between driving environments, more reliable support in congested cities, and overall enhancements in daily driving experiences.

Commenting on the partnership, Ivan Espinosa, President and CEO of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., emphasized its significance. He stated that combining Nissan’s autonomous driving expertise with Wayve’s cutting-edge AI sets a new industry benchmark. The next-generation ProPILOT aims to deliver intuitive, comfortable, and safe driving experiences while accelerating the global shift toward advanced mobility solutions.

Through this agreement, Nissan and Wayve are jointly shaping the future of intelligent driving. As AI systems continue to mature, adaptable driver assistance platforms like the new ProPILOT will play a crucial role in making roads safer and mobility more accessible.

With mass-market deployment approaching, the automotive industry is preparing for a new chapter, one where AI takes the wheel in meaningful and responsible ways. For more updates on innovations like this, stay tuned and visit ainewstoday.org for the latest AI news!
