The AI City plan Uttar Pradesh took centre stage on Monday as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met with Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran to discuss long-term strategic cooperation and investment opportunities in the state.
The meeting, held in Lucknow, covered a wide range of sectors but placed particular emphasis on the proposed AI City in the state capital, reflecting a shared ambition to position Uttar Pradesh as a hub for artificial intelligence, advanced technologies, and future-oriented jobs.
Chief Minister Adityanath and Tata Sons Chairman Chandrasekaran reviewed the progress of existing Tata Group initiatives in the state and outlined new proposals aimed at deepening collaboration.
The proposed AI City plan Uttar Pradesh is envisioned to strengthen the state’s startup ecosystem, spur innovation, and generate thousands of skilled employment opportunities in sectors that include AI, information technology, and the broader digital economy.
The discussions were broad in scope, encompassing cooperation in artificial intelligence, information technology, electronics manufacturing, defence, renewable energy, electric vehicles, tourism, skill development, and the digital economy.
Delegates also examined plans to expand Tata Group operations, including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) units in Lucknow, Noida, and Varanasi, with a proposal to grow the workforce at select centres from 16,000 to 30,000 employees, an initiative expected to significantly enhance the state’s talent pool.
A key component of the meeting was the review of the Rs 48 crore Centre of Excellence under development in Gorakhpur, which is aimed at providing advanced technical training and opportunities for youth, particularly from the Purvanchal region.
The centre will offer courses in emerging fields such as cybersecurity, data science, 3D printing, drones, and space technology, helping create an industry-ready workforce aligned with the objectives of the AI City plan.
In addition to technology and training, both sides discussed plans to broaden Tata Group investments in electronics manufacturing and high-tech product development. Talks included potential collaboration with global technology players such as Intel to further enhance the state’s electronics ecosystem. These discussions reflect Uttar Pradesh’s rapid development trajectory and its push to attract high-quality industrial investment.
Another major focus was strengthening defence manufacturing within the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, with proposals to increase investments in drones, missile systems, and defence vehicles across corridor hubs, including Jhansi. This aligns with the state’s broader strategy to develop a diversified industrial base capable of attracting both domestic and international investors.
Beyond industry and technology, the talks also covered tourism and hospitality. Construction of 30 new hotels under Tata Group brands like Taj, SeleQtions, and Vivanta is already underway, with plans to add approximately 1,900 luxury rooms. Further expansion of tourism infrastructure aims to support religious, cultural, and leisure travel across key destinations in Uttar Pradesh.
Chief Minister Adityanath emphasised the state government’s commitment to providing a stable policy framework and a business-friendly environment to attract and retain investment. He expressed confidence that the multi-dimensional partnership with the Tata Group would propel Uttar Pradesh closer to its goal of emerging as a trillion-dollar economy.
